One of her guests was JonBenet Ramsey's father, John Ramsey--who was recently found not guilty for the murder of his daughter by new evidence. What he said about the case and the media was very interesting. He said that the media gave a very unreal image of JonBenet and the entire family. Here were his main points:
-The media portrayed JonBenet's mother, Patty, as 'one of those mothers' who forces their daughter to enter beauty pageants. This, John claims, is not true. Patty was a supportive mom who knew pageantry and helped JonBenet do them.
-JonBenet was only a beauty princess. This wasn't true either, John said. She was involved in a lot of other activities and genuinely had her mother's spirit (who was also did pageants) and enjoyed being in pageants. She played sports and took dance classes and did other things that 6-year-olds do.
I think I believe John Ramsey, even though anyone would defend their family against the media. If John Ramsey is telling the truth about his family, the media really dropped the ball on this one.

The media likes to dramatize news stories to intrigue the audience. The story of JonBenet Ramsey is one that grabbed the attention of people across the nation but the media highlighted certain aspects of the family to make it seem like a bigger scandal. The media tends to focus on peoples flaws or the negatives in a situation because it draws more attention, and in this case made the parents look like the suspects for the murder of their daughter. It is wrong for the media to deliver slanted stories, however, they only do it because they know it will entice the consumers.
I agree that media likes to hype up their stories to gain a larger audience, but with some stories they have to have something to go off of. I don't remember all the details of the JonBenet case but I remember doing a project on it back in high school which supported details that the parents killed their daughter. I think the media like to play up on these stories, but they know the audience is interested, which is why they do it, and because most of them agree with what they are presenting as well.
Jonbenet was the Bret Favre of child beauty contests and was already getting an astounding and irritatingly ridiculous amount of media coverage before her death. I'll bet the house the Ramseys were the insane pageant family everyone thought they were before her murder. Her father telling me the opposite is not all that convincing. Plus I do not trust Oprah. She's up to something, mark my words.
