"Sexy Puritan" or "rightwing-Christian anti-choice extremist"

I've always though labels are the lazy journalist's best friend. Skip the complexities, because it's SO much easier to label him as "conservative" or her as "activist." This article from Slate comments on media attempts to label Palin in a comedic tone; I find it a bit alarming that media actually tries to categorize someone, especially an interesting individual such as Sarah Palin! "Hockey mom" does not do her justice! Plus, are we getting the full story if we marginalize someone like this?

I think that it is weird that the sub-title would say “SARAH PALIN EMBODIES A POWERFUL NEW CHRISTIAN RIGHT ARCHETYPE. WHAT COULD THAT MEAN FOR AMERICA?”
OUR COUNTRY WAS BASED ON CHRISTIANITY AND THEY ARE ASKING WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR AMERICA? THAT IN ITSELF IS A STEREOTPYE SAYING THAT ALL CHRISTIANS ARE A CERTAIN GENERALIZATION. I DON’T THINK AN INDIVIDUAL CAN FIT INTO ONE CATEGORY BECAUSE EVERYONE IS MULTI-FACETED. OBVIOUSLY SHE IS MORE THAN A “HOCKEY MOM” OR “MILF” (TINA FEY) BECAUSE SHE IS IN POLITICS AND INVOLVED IN OTHER AREAS. I LAUGHED OUT LOUD WHEN I HEARD THE PHRASE “SEXY PURITAN” BECAUSE REALLY IS IT JUST PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTANDING A PERSON SO THEY FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE TO LABEL HER? I THINK THAT ESPECIALLY TODAY IN SOCIETY IT’S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO NOT JUDGE OTHERS BASED ON THEIR PHYSICAL QUALITIES.

sorry about the caps i don't know what just happened!

Sometimes I do not like the fact that the media puts certain nicknames for people or stories. That just assumes some kind of label to a person and does not leave room to describe the real person.

Of course we aren't getting the full story about her. The media ate her up the second she was announced as the VP candidate! These names are full of humor, but it really makes you wonder. They start off as a joke someone blogs about or posts a comment about, but then she's stereotyped in almost all major publications and on news outlets all over the place. It's very unfortunate for her.
