Was Picking Sarah Palin a "Woman Thing?"

I can't help but notice how a lot of news channels are playing up the fact that McCain's chosen running mate is a woman. Sure, I completely understand that that is a big deal, and that it's newsworthy. But, at the same time, it is reminding me of how the media handled Senator Hillary Clinton's campaign--playing up the fact that she was a woman (a.k.a girl power) and grabbing a ton of women's votes.
Did McCain choose a woman to possibly scoop up all those girl power voters that would have voted for Hillary? Maybe. But whether he did or not, it seems like the media might be (intentionally or unintentionally) playing games with women voters.

Julie, it is funny how the media will not stop mentioning McCain's running mate is a woman, but you admit it is a big story. AND IT IS. Palin is president if McCain can't make it through his four years (if elected, of course), which with his age is a very real possibility. This would be perhaps the greatest political story this nation has ever seen. From enfranchisement to seat of power in less than 100 years!

I hope women aren't fooled by this. If they are truly being "played with" by the media, and really are going to be swayed by a single news report, maybe they shouldn't be voting in the first place. I think those of voting age are smart enough to see through that.
